Description

6' 10″ x 15' 3″  A beautiful "distressed" handwoven Malayer gallery (corridor) rug from the 4th quarter of the 1800s.  The rug has an abrash French blue/Navy blue field color with a Herati design.  The field design in this Malayer rug is in a Herati "allover" pattern.  The field color is a variation of Navy blue with bands of abrash French blue color throughout the field. The abrash French blue color (different shades of blue)  in the field is the result of using vegetable dyes and the very desirable abrash (variation or patina) that comes with the age and produces a wonderful effect. The light green or lime color border with various colors including yellow, pink, red, green, and blue is unbelievably beautiful.  The design of animal and human forms throughout adds to the whimsical beauty of this village masterpiece.  The rug has a wonderfully designed and very colorful border in a cream color with designs in blue, pink, yellow, green, red, and brown.
