Description

6’ 10” x 10’ 3”   An extremely fine weave handwoven Nain area rug from the 4th quarter of the 1900s.  The Nain Habibian is in an ivory background, with a pale tan border and design accent colors in French blue, pale brown, and ivory colors with silk highlights throughout the design.   The rug has the signature of the “Habibian” which is considered one of the best rug workshops in the city of Nain.  Extremely fine Nain rugs are world renowned for their extremely high knot count and wonderful design.  The design of this rug is reminiscent of rugs from the city of Isfahan with circular branches that go around the field.  The corner spandrels are in a beautiful blue with cream color designs.   The rug has a wool pile with a cotton foundation and silk highlights that shimmer under light.  The vibrancy of the silk is unbelievable especially in the beautiful central medallion which gives a three-dimensionality to the design.
