Description

6’ 10” x 10’ 2”   An extremely fine weave handwoven Nain area rug from the 4th quarter of the 1900s with a fine weave in ivory, pale blue.  This Nain has a beautiful floral design set in an ivory color field with a cream color border.  The design colors in the field include pale blue, French blue, brown.  The corner spandrels are in navy blue, caramel with floral designs in baby blue, cream and brown.   The rug has a wool pile with a cotton foundation and silk highlights that shimmer under light.  The vibrancy of the silk is unbelievable especially in the beautiful central medallion which gives a three-dimensionality to the design.   The rug has the signature of the “Habibian” which is considered one of the best rug workshops in the city of Nain.  Extremely fine Nain rugs are world renowned for their extremely high knot count and wonderful design.
