Description
5’ x 6’ 5” Vintage American Southwestern kilim area rug in gray, ivory, blue, red and brown colors circa the mid 20th century. The kilim has an open design pattern set on a gray color background with an ivory color border. The design is enhanced by using a small “S” symbol around the border of the rug. The use of small design forms in brown, blue and red add to the uniqueness of the pattern and design. The kilim rug is finely woven and could be used on the floor or would also be a great wall art or tapestry.
Navajo and Southwestern United States rugs are generally flat woven with wool for the body of the rug and usually cotton foundation. Navajo weavers use natural organic dyes that are available around their tribal land. The Navajo rugs have geometric designs and the design and symbols have religious and cultural meanings.
