Description

A remarkable survival from the early years of the 20th century, this antique Anatolian kilim features a prayer rug Mihrab pattern rendered in the bold, abrash-rich colors that characterize the finest Turkish village flatweaves of the period. The vivid green Mihrab — the arched niche that orients the prayer rug toward Mecca — creates a powerful focal point, surrounded by fields of shifting yellow, chartreuse, red, and black that have matured over more than a century into a palette of extraordinary complexity. Every color was achieved with natural vegetable dyes, and every tonal shift reflects the hand of the individual weaver. Antique prayer kilims of this quality and condition are among the most sought-after pieces in the flat-weave collecting world.
