Sustainability, and Vintage Rugs

Sustainability, and Vintage Rugs

Posted by The Persian Knot Gallery on Dec 4th 2022

At the Persian Knot Gallery, we are doing what we can to help our clients minimize their impact on the climate. We do this by helping our clients maintain the vintage rugs they have inherited or have bought from us. These rugs have a “Zero Carbon Footprint”. They have natural material, and vegetable dyes and were created with minimal impact on the environment nearly a century ago.

The vintage rugs in our collection were produced over 75 to 100 years ago and can be used for another 100 years if washed and maintained regularly. We believe it’s a win-win approach: enjoy the beauty of an artisan handwoven rug whose quality and workmanship will provide use and joy for generations.

Unfortunately, the rugs are currently being "woven" in factories in India, and China and sold online or in many furniture and rug stores, which are extremely polluting to the environment. Every step in material processing and production, manufacturing, transportation, and storage adds to the carbon footprint and negatively impacts the climate.
