Description

This vintage Persian Sarouk area rug from the third quarter of the 20th century presents the refined allover floral pattern against a deep navy field — an unusual and beautiful color choice that distinguishes this piece from the more common red-field Sarouks and gives the composition a cool, jewel-like quality. Accents of yellow, red, blue, and soft rose pink bring depth, elegance, and warmth to the design, beautifully framed by a classic Persian red border.

Sarouk rugs are renowned for their luxurious wool pile and extraordinary durability — qualities that this piece demonstrates with a full, even pile in excellent vintage condition. The Sarouk rug tradition, originating in the village of Sarouk near Arak in Western Persia, represents one of the most celebrated and widely collected categories of 20th century Persian carpet. Sarouk rugs are distinguished by their lush, heavy wool pile, their allover floral bouquet designs, and a richness of color — particularly the deep, saturated reds and navy blues — that has made them among the most recognizable and sought-after Persian rugs in the American and European collector markets since the early 20th century.
