Description

This exquisite vintage Persian Tabriz room-size rug, woven in the third quarter of the 20th century, features a vibrant allover geometric floral pattern that brings both sophistication and cheerful energy to any interior. Hand-knotted with a wool pile on a cotton foundation in the medium-weave density characteristic of skilled Tabriz workshop production, the rug boasts a striking luminous ivory field and matching ivory border as the backdrop for large-scale floral motifs in a rich array of vivid colors.

Turquoise, navy blue, green, red, yellow, and brown bloom across the ivory surface with the confident, large-format generosity that characterizes the finest Tabriz floral weavings — a visual abundance that fills large rooms with warmth and color without ever becoming busy or overwhelming. Tabriz, the ancient capital of Persian Azerbaijan and one of the great trading cities of the Silk Road, has been a center of carpet weaving for centuries. The city's workshops produce rugs of extraordinary technical precision and design sophistication — ranging from the classical floral medallion compositions of the great 19th century masters to the bold geometric and Mahi patterns for which Tabriz is equally celebrated. Tabriz rugs are among the most recognized and sought-after Persian carpets in the world.
