Description

This exceptional 19th century Persian Farahan rug from Western Persia features an elegant allover Herati pattern rendered in a deep navy blue field, accented by motifs in brick red, ivory, and soft blue — a classic and highly sought-after color combination in the Farahan tradition. The piece is framed by the rare and highly prized pistachio green border — often referred to as 'Farahan Pistachio' — that showcases intricate palmette and vine designs in complementary tones of blue, red, and green.

The pistachio green border is the most celebrated hallmark of the finest Farahan village weavings, appearing only in pieces of the highest quality and serving as a reliable indicator of authentic Farahan provenance. Though this rug exhibits areas of low pile and gentle wear consistent with its age, it retains the aesthetic brilliance and refined palette that have made Farahan rugs with this border among the most eagerly sought antique Persian textiles in the market today.
