Description

An exceptional late 19th century Persian Senneh rug, crafted by Kurdish artisans in Western Persia with the extraordinary fineness and artistic refinement for which the Senneh tradition is universally celebrated. This elegant piece features a refined elongated diamond medallion set against a cream-colored field, framed by a deep blue background with intricate small-scale geometric motifs rendered with jewel-like precision. The composition is beautifully completed by a rust-red border showcasing a rare, architecturally inspired geometric pattern of unusual sophistication.

Senneh rugs, woven in the Kurdish city of Sanandaj (historically known as Senneh) in the Kurdistan province of Western Persia, are among the most technically refined and artistically distinguished rugs in the entire Persian tribal and village canon. Senneh is celebrated for producing rugs and kilims of extraordinary fineness — with knot counts rivaling the great urban workshop traditions — worked in a wool of remarkable silky softness and luster. The Senneh kilim, in particular, is considered one of the great masterworks of Persian flatweave weaving, and room-size examples are extraordinarily rare and highly prized by collectors worldwide.
