Description

A beautiful vintage Persian Senneh kilim area rug from the Kurdistan region of Western Persia, featuring a striking geometric central medallion rendered in deep indigo blue, adorned with stylized motifs in red, ivory, and soft yellow. The medallion rests against an elegant ivory field delicately patterned with small floral motifs that add texture and refinement to the composition — the fine, intricate patterning that is the hallmark of the Senneh kilim tradition, in which even the ground between the major design elements is filled with visual interest.

A light blue border frames the composition with subtle sophistication. In excellent condition, this Senneh kilim is a beautiful and accessible example of one of the most admired flatweave traditions in the Persian rug world. Senneh rugs, woven in the Kurdish city of Sanandaj (historically known as Senneh) in the Kurdistan province of Western Persia, are among the most technically refined and artistically distinguished rugs in the entire Persian tribal and village canon. Senneh is celebrated for producing rugs and kilims of extraordinary fineness — with knot counts rivaling the great urban workshop traditions — worked in a wool of remarkable silky softness and luster. The Senneh kilim, in particular, is considered one of the great masterworks of Persian flatweave weaving, and room-size examples are extraordinarily rare and highly prized by collectors worldwide.
