Description

This exquisite vintage Persian Silk Qum area rug is a masterpiece of refined Persian weaving from the third quarter of the 20th century — handwoven entirely of pure silk, both the pile and the foundation, a construction of the highest luxury that gives the rug a natural luminosity and sheen that shifts and glows with extraordinary beauty as light moves across its surface.

The design features a classical floral garden motif centered around a soft rust-red medallion set on an ivory field, framed by a deep navy border adorned with finely drawn scrolling vinery and blossoming flowers. The exceptional clarity of the design — every petal, every vine, every detail rendered with jewel-like precision — is made possible only by the extremely fine knot count that is the hallmark of Qum's master silk weavers. The city of Qum, one of the holiest cities in Shia Islam, is celebrated worldwide for producing the finest silk carpets in Persia, and this all-silk example represents that tradition at its most transcendent.
