Description

A beautiful vintage Turkish Tulu area rug, handwoven in the second quarter of the 20th century in the distinctive alternating horizontal stripe pattern — ivory and dark brown bands creating a bold, graphic composition of great tactile appeal and minimalist beauty. True to the Tulu weaving style unique to Central and Eastern Anatolian mountain villages, one side features a soft, luxuriously shaggy wool pile, while the other is flatwoven with no pile — a construction that allows for versatile display and use.

Tulu rugs were traditionally created in Anatolian mountain villages as functional, warming textiles — spread on earthen floors and draped over sleeping platforms during the harsh highland winters. Today, collected for both their authentic character and their bold, sculptural quality, Tulu rugs bring the warmth and honest beauty of genuine Anatolian village craft to any interior that values handmade authenticity.
