How Long Rug Pads Last?

Rug padding provides support for the rug and secures the rug to the floor which provides additional safety and security. We are often asked by clients contacting the Persian Knot Gallery when a rug pad should be replaced. Depending on the traffic on the rug, we suggest the rug pads be replaced every few years.

The rug pads gradually break down and need to be replaced. One will notices the time for replacing a pad when you see a fine powder-like residue under the pad on the floor. In general, rug pads for the handwoven rugs should be replaced every 3-5 years to provide support for the rug and also for safety and security.

We custom cut the padding to an exact specification to fit your carpet perfectly so that you don't have to cut it since it is very difficult and time-consuming. We use the highest quality padding material. Our padding is 1/4 inch thick with rubber backing to secure the floor and the felt top for the highest grip on the carpet.
