Description

This authentic vintage Persian Malayer area rug features an elegant allover paisley motif, a design long associated with prosperity, continuity, and refined craftsmanship. The richly saturated dark red to burgundy field provides a dramatic backdrop for the finely drawn paisley forms, rendered in nuanced tones that reveal the artistry of Malayer village weavers.

The composition is beautifully balanced by an ivory border, while the corner spandrels—also in ivory—are adorned with charming stylized bird motifs, adding a lyrical and symbolic touch rarely seen in comparable examples. At each end of the rug, small triangular panels in a vibrant, naturally dyed green introduce an unexpected accent that enlivens the overall palette and highlights the weaver’s creative sensibility.

Additional hues of brown, blue, and red appear throughout the field and borders, displaying gentle tonal shifts created by traditional vegetable dyes. These variations, known as abrash, are a hallmark of handwoven Persian rugs and lend depth, movement, and unmistakable authenticity to the piece.
