Vintage Persian Tabriz Afshan Rug. Meticulously hand-knotted circa the second quarter of the 1900s, this room-size rug is a captivating example of Tabriz artistry that masterfully incorporates a highly desirable and unusual all-over geometric Caucasian Kuba pattern.
The rug's design is reminiscent of the celebrated 19th-century Caucasian Kuba and Shirvan rugs, known for their bold geometric forms and striking palettes. This particular pattern, known as "Afshan," features stylized dragons and blossoms woven throughout the field, a unique and masterful interpretation within the Persian Tabriz tradition.
The beautiful rug features a deep and elegant navy blue background, which provides a serene canvas for its intricate design. The rich field is brought to life with a vibrant palette of green, blue, pink, yellow, and red, with the bright, contrasting colors creating a visually dynamic and sophisticated tapestry. The entire composition is expertly framed by a striking ivory color border, adding a warm and bold enclosure.
This rug is in wonderful condition, a testament to its quality and craftsmanship. It is particularly rare to find vintage rugs with such a consistently executed and beautiful design, and this piece is an identical pair to SKU 1260, and shares a similar design with other select pieces in our collection (SKUs 1920, 2245, 1858, and 1260). The existence of these matching or similar patterns makes this a truly remarkable and collectible find.
