The beautiful Persian Tabriz Afshan rug was hand-knotted in a fine workshop in the city of Tabriz during the first or second quarter of the 20th century. This room-size rug is a captivating example of Tabriz artistry that masterfully incorporates a highly desirable and unusual all-over geometric Caucasian Kuba pattern.
The rug's design is reminiscent of the celebrated 19th-century Caucasian Kuba and Shirvan rugs, known for their bold geometric forms and striking palettes. This particular pattern, known as "Afshan," features stylized dragons and blossoms woven throughout the field, a unique and masterful interpretation within the Persian Tabriz tradition.
This rug is in wonderful condition, a testament to its quality and craftsmanship. It is a particularly rare find to discover vintage rugs with such a consistently executed and beautiful design, and this piece shares its remarkable pattern with a select few others in our collection (SKUs 1920, 2245, 1260, and 1261).
