Description

This exquisite 19th century Persian Bidjar Halavi rug is a masterwork of antique Kurdish craftsmanship from the late 1800s. Featuring a refined Herati geometric pattern, the rug showcases a richly detailed design with an ivory field and a prominent navy blue diamond medallion, accented by light blue anchor pendants and a striking red subfield. Intricate motifs in green, tan, blue, brown, and ivory create a harmonious allover pattern that exemplifies the enduring elegance of traditional Persian weaving.

The composition is framed by a deep navy main border adorned with classic turtle motifs — one of the most prized border designs in the Bidjar weaving vocabulary — complemented by a rare outer border of red and ivory geometric elements that adds an unusual finishing touch. Bidjar rugs, woven by Kurdish artisans in Northwest Persia using a unique compressed-weave construction, are legendary for their durability and density — qualities that have allowed this 19th century example to survive in magnificent condition after more than a century of use.
