Description

This beautiful 19th century Chinese Peking rug features a refined and balanced open field design set in a soft pale cream background, evoking a sense of calm and understated elegance. At the heart of the composition is a large medallion. Surrounding the medallion are classic Chinese motifs for fortune, prosperity, and long life, artfully arranged in a way that feels both symbolic and serene. The color palette includes baby blue, deep navy, soft brown, and antique ivory, lending the rug a timeless appeal and versatility in interior design. The structure of the rug—an open field with a subtle lattice border—mirrors the aesthetic found in Ningxia carpets from the 18th and early 19th centuries, known for their elegant restraint and spiritual symbolism.
