Description

This exquisite early 20th century Persian Joshegan rug, handwoven in the Kashan district of Central Persia, features a vibrant rust red ground with striking French blue corner spandrels and an allover geometric lattice of interconnected diamond motifs. A stepped lozenge medallion anchors the composition, adorned with cross motifs and the symbolic Tree of Life floral patterns that have been woven into Joshegan textiles since the tradition began in the 17th century.

Joshegan — the village that gave its name to one of the oldest continuous carpet weaving traditions in Persia — is celebrated for its distinctive diamond lattice design, which has remained remarkably consistent across centuries of production. This early 20th century example represents the tradition in its fully mature, refined form — a piece of genuine historical and decorative significance.
