Malayer 1741

A 19th century Persian Malayer rug, dating from the fourth quarter of the 1800s.  Rendered in an expansive gallery format, the rug features a sophisticated all-over geometric pattern set against a richly abrash navy blue field—an effect that adds depth, nuance, and a sense of movement to the design.

Framing the central field is a striking primary border in a warm red tone, intricately woven with angular floral and vine motifs in a harmonious palette of blue, pale yellow, soft pink, green, and brown. The corner spandrels, executed in a complementary rust-red, feature delicate Herati patterns in pastel hues, including baby blue, rose, and sage green—lending a graceful contrast to the field.  This Malayer rug is ideally suited for use as a statement piece in a library, hallway, or gallery setting.
