Description

8' 10" x 12' 6"    A room-size Kerman Vase carpet from the mid-1900s.  The camelhair or apricot field color with an all-over trellis of leafy vines, palmettes, and vases issuing floral sprays within a black color flowerhead and palmette border. The wool is extremely soft and feels lush and rich.  Colors can range from ivory, blue, and magenta to a more golden and saffron cast.

The world-renowned Kerman Vase carpets that were woven in the 16th and 17th centuries are considered masterpieces of fine Persian weaving art.  Fragments of those beautiful carpets are not in museum collections around the world.

The "Vase" design follows the design of the rugs woven during the Safavid dynasty between the 1500s and the late 1600s.  The most famous rug from that era was Clark's "Sickle-Leaf Vase" rug sold at Sotheby's setting a world record.
