Description

This vintage Kurdish tribal area rug features a classic prayer rug composition woven in the early 20th century in lustrous camel hair wool — a rare and prized material that gives the field a warm, honey-toned luminosity that no dyed wool can replicate. The softly glowing camel hair field is animated by three vertically aligned architectural motifs, creating the quiet spiritual symmetry characteristic of Kurdish village prayer rugs. Most notable is the rare pistachio green border — a color achieved through one of the most technically demanding natural dye processes in the entire tribal weaving world and highly sought after by collectors.

Subtle accents of brick terracotta, deep navy, and soft purple lend depth and warmth while preserving the rug's restrained, meditative aesthetic. Camel hair Kurdish prayer rugs with pistachio green borders are among the rarest combinations in the tribal rug market. Kurdish rugs, woven by the Kurdish tribal peoples of Western and Northwestern Persia, Eastern Turkey, and Northern Iraq, represent one of the most vibrant and diverse traditions in the tribal rug world. Kurdish weavers are celebrated for their bold, saturated color palettes — often featuring deep reds, abrash blues, and the rare pistachio green that is among the most prized colors in tribal collecting — their lush, high-quality wool pile, and a design vocabulary that combines geometric boldness with a spontaneous creative energy that gives each piece its own unmistakable character.
