Woven for use rather than trade, this early 20th century Persian Tribal Sofreh kilim from the Qashqai weavers of Southwest Persia is a rare and deeply personal artifact of nomadic life. Sofreh kilims served as the communal dining cloth of the tribal household — laid out during meals to hold serving dishes, folded away carefully afterward — and as a result they were handled with great care and subjected to minimal wear. This square-format example in beautifully aged brown, navy, pink, and pale yellow bears all the hallmarks of authentic Qashqai craftsmanship: handspun wool, natural organic dyes, and a flatweave construction of exceptional finesse. Genuine tribal Sofreh kilims of this age and quality are extremely scarce and eagerly sought by serious collectors.
