8’ 6” x 12’ 2” This "Ziegler" Mahal Sultanabad with a dark blue field and a white wide border filled with large geometric and floral forms. The rug has an all-over design in the field. The renowned Ziegler company had set up operations in the 19th century in Persia to create its own special design and colors intended for the European markets. It excelled in all the steps including acquiring the best wool and use of vegetable dyes in addition to contracting some of the best weavers to create wonderful rugs.
