Description
53” x 65” Beautifully hand-crafted American Amish pieced cotton youth patchwork quilt in a “Indian Hatchet” pattern from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania circa the mid-1900s. The prominent colors in the quilt are blue, purple, green, and red. The individual geometric pieces in green, red, gray, black, navy and other colors have been hand-cut and hand-stitched. The quilt has very fine hand stitching. The Amish community in Pennsylvania hand craft the quilts for their own use using the material that they had on hand. It is a beautiful example of an upcycling and reuse of material that has utilitarian functions but is also a representation of the art and culture that is woven into it.
