Description
4’ 7” x 5’ 4” (55” x 64”) Vintage American hand hooked area rug in geometric pattern circa the early 20th century. The rug has a wonderful narrow parallel line pattern with a navy blue background and stripes in many shades of green, blue, red, pink, brown and purple. The rug has an ultra modern design pattern with a beautiful color pallet.
The hooked rugs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries are made with recycled old material, often used clothing that had been cut into narrow stripes. The foundation of hooked rugs is generally burlap material which the maker uses the stenciling technique to transfer the pattern into the surface. Once the design has been transferred to burlap, it would then be filled with the recycled material stripes and more recently yarn using the hooking technique. Because of the delicacy in the material and construction of vintage hand hooked rugs, they should be used with care. The use of special design and the brilliant colors makes this truly an artistic piece wonderful to be used as a wall art or displayed on a table. Antique Hooked Rugs are a combination of Folk Art Creativity and Simplicity. When it comes to true simplicity and artistic creativity Antique Hooked Rugs have some of the best representations.
