Description

This exquisite early 20th-century Persian Kashan Joshegan rug, handwoven in Iran circa the early 1900s.   Rendered in a vibrant rust red ground with striking French blue corner spandrels, the rug features an all-over geometric lattice of interconnected diamond motifs. A stepped lozenge medallion anchors the composition, adorned with cross motifs and symbolic "Tree of Life" floral patterns.

The field and spandrels are richly ornamented with stylized Weeping Willow trees—a hallmark of Joshegan symbolism—depicted in harmonious tones of blue, green, cream, red, pink, and orange. A rectilinear palmette Meander border encloses the central design, flanked by dual inner and outer guard bands and crenellated fence border stripes.
