Description

The early 20th century Persian Mahal Sultanabad room size rug.  The hand woven rugs with an all over pattern have been produced in the Sultanabad area of Persia (modern-day Arak) from the mid-1800s onward and have become world-renowned and highly desirable for their unique color schemes and open, large-scale designs, a style often associated with the prestigious Ziegler & Co. firm.

This beautiful and colorful rug features a captivating allover large format pattern, a hallmark of desirable Mahal Sultanabad weaves. The design is set against a rich and pleasing dark auburn red field, which provides an ideal and inviting background color for any interior design. The vibrant pattern is brought to life with a stunning palette including deep navy blue, delicate pink, lively chartreuse green, and creamy ivory. The presence of chartreuse green in the design particularly evokes the aesthetic of the famous Ziegler rugs from this region, underscoring its historical lineage.

The rug's composition is beautifully framed by a very dark blue border, which masterfully brings harmony to the entire design, balancing the vibrant field. The combination of its striking colors and open design creates a sense of spaciousness and elegance, making it a versatile and impactful piece.
