Description

This exceptional Persian Nain rug, handwoven in the third quarter of the 20th century, showcases a rare and beautiful French blue field — a color choice of unusual distinction that sets this piece apart from the ivory and cream-field Nains that dominate the tradition. Paired beautifully with cream accents and silk highlights that bring the design to shimmering life, the French blue field creates a depth and richness that rewards extended viewing.

The room-size rug features an elegant central medallion framed by floral motifs in tones of caramel, red, and cream, while the corner spandrels, set in cream with intricate blue floral detailing, provide symmetry and contrast that enhance the richness of the field. The balanced ivory-colored border completes the composition with quiet authority. Nain, the celebrated weaving city of Central Persia, is known for producing some of the most technically refined Persian rugs of the 20th century, and this room-size example in its rare blue colorway is among the most distinctive in the tradition.
