Description
23” x 38” Vintage American Southwestern hand woven kilim area rug in green, red and black colors circa the late 20th century. The southwestern flat woven kilim rug is in a dark green color field with a central medallion in red with accent colors in ivory and black colors. Navajo and Southwestern rugs from the United States and northern Mexico are generally flat woven with wool for the body of the rug and usually cotton foundation. These weavers use natural organic dyes that are available around their tribal land. The Navajo rugs have geometric designs and the design and symbols have religious and cultural meanings.
