51” x 77” Finely hand-woven Native American Navajo Chinle Rug in gold, yellow, ivory, brown, and gray colors from the SW United States from the early 1900s. The Chinle rug is in the banded stripe pattern with small geometric medallions in each row. The rug is in the overall condition.
Navajo rugs are generally flat woven with wool for the body of the rug and usually cotton foundation. Navaja weavers use natural organic dyes that are available around their tribal land. The Navajo rugs have geometric designs and the design and symbols have religious and cultural meanings.
