30” x 55” Vintage Native American Navajo rug in a Storm Warrior pattern in gray, Ivory, red, brown and black handwoven in the SW United States. Circa the mid 1900s. This rug has a very unique and wonderful color combination including gray, black and ivory. The rug is very finely woven. Overall it is an outstanding example of fine Navajo weaving art from one of the most renowned Navajo weaving families. Navajo rugs are generally flat woven with wool for the body of the rug and usually cotton foundation. Navajo weavers usually try to use natural organic dyes that are available around their tribal land. The Navajo rugs have geometric designs and the design and symbols have religious and cultural meanings.
