An exquisite 19th-century hand-woven Paisley shawl from Northwest India, featuring an elegant color palette of brick red, ivory, black, and green. This historic textile showcases a finely detailed paisley border, with larger stylized boteh (paisley) motifs at each end. Originating from Kashmir, these shawls—sometimes called “Paisley” or “Piano” shawls—became highly fashionable in Europe during the Victorian era, especially after Queen Victoria popularized them. The design and craftsmanship of these Indian shawls later inspired the iconic production of similar pieces in Paisley, Scotland, throughout the 19th century.
