19th Century Persian Shahsavan Soumak double saddlebag in multicolor geometrical star design. The beautiful Shahsavan tribal soumak saddlebag has a finely woven bagface with the geometric small medallions design in bright colors of green, yellow, ivory and red. It has finely woven kilim backing in stripe design in rust red, brown and yellow colors. Traditionally, the tribal saddlebags and mafrash (large carrying bags) started their lives as utilitarian items for the use by the village and tribal weavers and more than a century later they are used as tribal tapestry wall art.
