The Jajim kilim is the flatweave of the nomad — woven on a horizontal loom that could be disassembled and carried across the seasonal migration routes of Anatolia, the Caucasus, and Persia. This vintage Turkish Jajim from the second quarter of the 20th century was assembled from four individually woven strips sewn together, each produced by a weaver working close to the ground on a loom that travelled with the tribe. The result is a room-size kilim of great visual energy — bold stripes in blue, green, red, orange, brown, gray, yellow, and purple filling the surface with a rhythm that reflects both the technical constraints and the creative freedom of the horizontal loom tradition. A deeply human piece, carrying within its construction a story of mobility, craft, and the beauty found in demanding conditions.
