Description

An enchanting late 19th Century Caucasian "Cloudband" Kazak area rug hand-woven in the village of Chondoresh in the Karabagh area of the Caucasus mountains.

This rug is a prime example of the powerful aesthetic that results from the use of natural organic dyes. It features a unique and highly desirable abrash cranberry red background color, a result of these dyes beautifully developing into various shades over time. The term "abrash" refers to the subtle and charming color variations that give the rug a unique and authentic character, making it a living work of art.

The main design consists of three large and powerful "Cloudband" medallions, rendered in a beautiful combination of blue and navy backgrounds. The medallions are adorned with cloudband forms in luminous ivory, red, and blue, which stand out elegantly against the rich field. Adding to the rug's charm and authenticity are the human and animal forms scattered throughout the field, reflecting the weaver's personal narrative and the tribal heritage of the region. The entire composition is expertly framed by a striking blue border with intricate designs.
