Description

This exceptional late 19th century Caucasian Shirvan area rug exemplifies the artistry and enduring beauty of village weaving from the Caucasus Mountains. Hand-knotted using high-quality wool and naturally derived vegetable dyes, the rug features a striking allover geometric composition set against a deep navy blue field—an iconic hallmark of Shirvan design.

The field is elegantly framed by a finely articulated ivory geometric border, enriched with accents of green, yellow, and blue that add visual rhythm and depth. Over time, the rug has developed a softly worn surface, lending it an authentic shabby chic character that enhances its charm without diminishing its integrity. This gentle patina speaks to both the age of the piece and the exceptional craftsmanship of its makers, whose mastery ensured durability and lasting beauty.  A timeless example of Caucasian weaving artistry.
